لا أدري لماذا استوقفتني صورة طائر الحمام
الذي أراه كل يوم على قُبة المسجد القريب من بيتي، لماذا
اليوم بالذات؟ وأنا التي أمُرّ بهذا الطريق
كلّ يوم؟ فكّرتُ بأن الحمامة تُصلّي!
نعم! الحمام يُصلي على جدران المسجد ويقضي
ساعات طويلة في عبادته وخشوعه وابتهاله ، ويزيد منظر المسجد جمالاً..
لعل
سبب توقفي عند هذه الصّورة الذهنية للحمامة وهي تصلي بأمان وسلام، هي الصوّر
المعاكسة التي أيضاً أراها كل يوم في الصحف وموجز الأخبار، الصور المروعة للحروب
التي باتت تندلع وتنتشر كالحريق في شتى بقاع الأرض، صور مخيفة، بشعة لانفجارات
ودمار، وقنابل وقتل وهتك وترهيب، والسبب ماذا؟
الدين.
لكنني في ذات الوقت تذكرتُ، أنه في كل
البلدان الغير اسلامية التي زرتها في حياتي (ولم يتسنى لي زيارة الكثير من البلدان،
لكن في البلدان التي رأيتها) رأيتُ الحمامة عند معبدٍ أو آخر، سواء كانت كنيسة أو
معبد الهندوس أو معبد السيخ أو معبد البوذا، و حتى الهياكل الأثرية المحطمة لِمعابد الفراعنة واليونانيون، في كلِّ مكان في
كل العقائد والديانات واللغات، رأيت الحمامة تُصلّي.
I pass by the mosque near my house almost every day, and almost every
day I see the pigeons contemplating ever so calmly, watching our mad life from
way up there, on the round dome of the small mosque. I would fantasize that
pigeons too prayed, this gave me a funny but an uplifting spiritual pleasure;
knowing that pigeons are in fact quite keen devoted creatures, spending all
their days on the roofs and walls of mosques.. But why
today especially, why
did I not notice this before?
Perhaps the peaceful image of pigeons praying on top of mosques was obscurely
linked to another image I’ve also come to see every day - sadly - an opposite image,
images of violence, war and horror. War spreading like forest fires everywhere,
on the news, in the papers, disturbing images of death, destruction, bombs,
terrorism and devastation, and for what reason?
Religion.
I went back to the image of the peaceful pigeon praying and it occurred to
me; that in all the non-Muslim countries I visited (although I haven’t had the
chance to visit many countries in my life, but the ones I have seen) the
pigeons were there, contemplating calmly from the roof tops of Christian Churches,
of Hindu and Sikh and Buddhist Temples, even on what’s left of the ruins of
ancient Greek and Egyptian Temples…
The pigeon prayed, she prayed everywhere, in all languages, in all faiths,
she prays in peace.
